🎬 Tamasha (2015) – Film Review
ReplyDelete1. Introduction
About the Film
Title: Tamasha
Director: Imtiaz Ali
Release Date: 27 November 2015
Genre: Coming-of-age romantic drama
Language: Hindi
Lead Actors: Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone
Music: A. R. Rahman
Cinematography: Ravi Varman
Editing: Aarti Bajaj
Tamasha, written and directed by Imtiaz Ali, is a coming age romantic drama that explores identity, childhood dreams, societal expectations and the distance between who we are and who we are expected to be.
Central Idea:
At first, Tamasha feels like a love story between Ved and Tara. But as the story progresses, I feel it is more about Ved trying to understand who he really is. This is what makes it different from a usual romantic film.
2. Outline Summary
Childhood and Corsica
As a child, Ved is fascinated by stories and storytellers, showing his creative side. Later, he meets Tara in Corsica. They hide their real identities and pretend to be different characters.Ved is playful, carefree and much more comfortable with himself.
Ved's Life in Delhi;
When Tara meets Ved again in Delhi, she sees a completely different person. He is now a product manager stuck in a repetitive office routine. The contrast between Ved in Corsica and Ved in Delhi is one of the strongest parts of the film.
3. Analysis
Identity and Expectations:
The main idea I took from Tamasha is the struggle between being yourself and becoming what others expect you to be. Ved's repetitive office life feels mechanical, unlike his free and energetic personality in Corsica. I liked how the film shows his unhappiness through his behaviour rather than simply explaining it.
Childhood and Storytelling
The storytelling scenes from Ved's childhood stayed with me. They show that creativity has always been a part of him. As he grows older, this side gets buried under expectations. I found this relatable because people often give up their interests while trying to focus on studies, careers and being practical.
Ved and Tara
The Corsica scenes between Ved and Tara are my favourite parts of the film. Their conversations feel natural, and Ved seems genuinely happy. Tara also notices the difference between the carefree Ved she knew in Corsica and the serious person he becomes in Delhi.
Acting and Visuals
Ranbir Kapoor convincingly shows Ved's two sides through his expressions and body language. Deepika Padukone gives Tara a warm and natural personality.
The cinematography also supports the story. Corsica feels open and lively, while Ved's everyday life feels more restricted.
Editing and Music:
The nonlinear editing can be confusing at times, but it helps connect Ved's childhood with his adult life. A. R. Rahman's music is another highlight. “Matargashti” captures the fun of Corsica, while “Agar Tum Saath Ho” brings out the sadness and emotional distance between Ved and Tara.
Strengths and Weaknesses:
The strongest parts are the performances, music, cinematography and message. However, the slow pace and nonlinear storytelling may not appeal to everyone, and some emotional scenes feel slightly exaggerated.
4. Conclusion
Overall View-
For me, Tamasha is mainly about losing yourself and finding your way back. Ved's journey made me think about how easily people can end up living according to expectations instead of their own choices.
5. Recommendation
Who Should Watch It?
I would recommend Tamasha to students and young adults, especially those who feel pressured about their future or career.People who enjoy emotional, character-based films will probably connect with it. However, viewers looking for a simple, fast-paced romance may find it slow.
6. Rating
⭐ 4.5 / 5
Final Verdict
Tamasha is not perfect, but it stays in your mind. For me, it is more than a love story. It reminds us that while trying to become the person others expect us to be, we should not forget who we actually are.
